The New Business Manager is responsible for coordinating and supporting the agency’s efforts in securing new business from a variety of government and non-government sources. The New Business Manager will be the main contact between the leadership of VMLY&R DC and the Global Growth team in New York. The New Business Manager will work closely with the leadership of VMLY&R DC and the Global Growth team in managing each stage of the new business process and working with other VMLY&R agency members of the pitch team.


  • Actively monitor the Deltek software to identify upcoming government opportunities and alert VMLY&R DC leadership and Global Growth team to relevant situations
  • Coordinate with Global Growth team and freelance government proposal writers to prepare all written material for submission in accordance with US government proposal guidelines
  • Responsible for coordinating with Global Growth team related to any in person meetings as part of the pitch process and managing any logistics related to Washington, DC area meetings
  • Coordinate timelines and budgets with Global Growth team
  • Acts as local representative to the potential customers during the initial contact
  • Organize and work closely with the Global Growth pitch team and all agency departments to ensure all aspects of the new business pitch effort is completed on schedule (and on budget) essentially managing the project from beginning to end as it related to activities at VMLY&R DC
  • Gather and update credential information (billings, headcount, etc)
  • Contribute to development of all creative assets needed for case studies and pitches
  • Prepare status reports and update internal new business tracking software
  • Open, track and update all new business budgets; work with Finance to resolve any issues
  • Research non-government companies using Adspender, Lexis Nexis and other tools as needed
  • Contribute to and communicate creative visions to design team and provide insight into decor of presentation room and design of materials.



  • Three to five years of experience in Account Management or Business Development at an advertising agency/marketing services company or consulting firm
  • Experience with government and non-government clients
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing and producing strategic content
  • Ability to effectively manage a matrix team towards aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task, resolve problems and recognize appropriate escalation points
  • Excellent organizational skills and analytical abilities
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Extreme sensitivity to and respect for working in confidentiality
  • Willingness to work long, flexible hours
