By She Runs It

Hometown Originally from Toronto, ON, CANADA, then moved to NYC for 10 years before moving here to Chicago 4 years ago.

Current job title I’m currently an E-Commerce and Marketing consultant.

Describe your career journey My career journey is ever evolving. Curiosity has shaped my career and I’ve leaned toward opportunities where I could learn and build something new. I’ve been a financial analyst at Capital One Canada (employee #43 in the office and the 2nd person hired for the finance team). I left Toronto for NYC to pursue my MBA and to explore the retail industry. I worked at Kenneth Cole, Tiffany & Co., and Ann Taylor in store/merchandise planning and strategy. I was a food blogger over a decade ago, when brands were starting to test out this influencer channel. This led me to launching the social media department at FreshDirect and eventually leading acquisition and digital marketing. I moved to Chicago with my young family and joined Peapod (an Ahold Delhaize company) where I ran all growth marketing channels including Paid Media, Social/Digital Marketing, SEM/SEO, PR/Influencers, and events. I recently left Peapod to pursue a new adventure and have found that the mentors and contacts I’ve made throughout my career journey have been instrumental in providing advice, resources, and support.

Which three words would you use to describe your personality? Creative, Tenacious, Compassionate

Name a woman who inspires you and why. My mom’s strength, independence, and tenacity has always inspired me. She grew up with very little and left her home country for the UK on her own without knowing the language. She eventually made her way to Canada, found work as a secretary and worked her way up in the company to eventually becoming a leading bond portfolio manager. She’s taught me to be resilient and to reach outside my comfort zone, while taking nothing for granted.

What committees/programs are you involved in with She Runs It? I currently volunteer on the Leadership Development committee, Multicultural committee, and the Mentoring committee. I’m also both a mentor and mentee of the program. I try to attend as many of the panels and events that I can as this community has quickly become a great source of inspiration.

What advice would you give to fellow new members in making the most of their membership? For me, it was easier to meet and chat with other members in smaller group settings, like the ambassador coffee chat, joining/attending committee meetings (especially the in-person ones), and attending the Working Mothers luncheon.  Joining “She Runs It” was also a great reminder to take some time outside the office because I would always be more energized after the panels and events.

What does the words “She Runs It” mean to you? For me, “She Runs It” means that “She’s in control – driving her life in an intentional way”.
