No One Can Whistle A Symphony
By AlysonCarney
I am a passionate collector of inspiration. I latch onto quotes, book excerpts, song lyrics and other nuggets that make me think. Or smile. One such quote came to mind a couple of days ago. It originated with Halford Luccock, who was a minister and professor of divinity at Yale. He wrote, “No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.”
The past few weeks have been a symphony for She Runs It. We had an incredible experience at Cannes, and we returned to announce that six new directors have joined the She Runs It Board.
I want to thank the orchestra. In Cannes – and you can see our photo montage on our recent Monthly Email for July – we partnered with Pandora, The Room, Teads and Facebook to host four events:
We had a powerful discussion with the Best of the Badass Bosses including Terri Hines from Fox, Lorraine Barber-Miller from ADP, Jenny Rooney from Forbes and Lauren Nagel from Pandora.
We hosted four amazing pairs of work partners for a conversation titled She Runs It, He Gets It. That particular section included Cindy Gustafson from WW (with Mindshare’s Joe Maceda); Laura Maness from Havas NY (with Paul Marobella from Havas NA); Kasha Cacy from Engine Group (with Mike Zacharski from EMX); and Robin Wheeler (with Matt Derella), both from Twitter.
The Room hosted a networking event for us on Tuesday night in Cannes.
On Thursday morning, we took to the Facebook beach to hear powerful stories of bravery from Denise Collela (NBCU), Carla Hassan (Citi), and Jacki Kelley (Dentsu Aegis). The morning also featured spoken word poetry from Fran Tamakloe and a panel discussion reprise of She Runs It He Gets It with Steven Wolfe Pereira & Susie Jaramillo, both from Encantos, and Michelle Klein from Facebook.
The week was a whirlwind of events, meetings and unforgettable, invaluable conversations.
Then we came home to announce a new slate of board directors. You can find the press release here. We have an amazing board that conducts the symphony we know as She Runs It every day, and that board just got stronger to the power of Michelle Aragon, Catherine Davis, Angela Johnson, Lucia Ballas-Traynor, Beth Superfin and Maria Weaver.
She Runs It just completed its most successful year in our 100-year history. We are a vibrant and growing community of amazing women and men who work passionately to pave the way for more women to lead at every level of marketing, media and tech. We are a symphony. And I’m grateful for every member of our orchestra.
