When She Runs It first launched #Inclusive100 in 2017, I was practically giddy. Encouraged by some of the industry’s most respected leaders to use data and measurement in the pursuit of greater inclusion and diversity in our industry, I was certain the Seramount Inclusion Index, augmented by quarterly roundtable conversations, would have a speedy and significant impact.

Fast forward six years, and while the participating companies have experienced positive impact, too few companies are taking advantage of the tool. They are also missing out on the incredible dialogue that occurs during the roundtables – crowd sourcing actionable best practices and confront nagging challenges. As an industry, we could and should have made so much more progress by now.

Black History Month is a perfect time to reflect on our intentions and to reignite our commitment to DEI. If I may quote Dr. Martin Luther King, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving.” So we keep moving.

She Runs It and Seramount have developed a new tool, informed by and tailored to our industry. It is streamlined for ease of completion. And it’s open for submissions right now (through March 12). This tool is called the Marketing, Media, and AdTech Inclusion Index. You can find it here.

The only way to achieve greater diversity, equity and inclusion in our industry is to keep moving toward it with intention and determination. I believe there will never be a more valuable or achievable way forward than through measurement and action, and the new index is the roadmap.
