Keynote: Do you Belong?
Which is more important? Belonging to a community or circle? Or being valued and respected by that community or circle? You might think the answer is “Both!”, and it does seem ideal to belong to a group that values and respects you. But what if belonging means embracing ideals or behaviors that aren’t authentic to who you are? In this conversation, two industry leaders (and long-time friends), discuss the questions: Can a person ever fully belong in a workplace where they are under-represented? How much of herself might she lose when trying to “fit in?” Don’t miss this riveting conversation which explores the courage to stand alone and the true meaning of belonging.
Speakers:
Judy Jackson, President, JLC Ventures
Carol Watson, Global Chief Inclusion Officer, BCW Global

Promoting our sense of self-worth, the ability to determine our own choices, and the intent to influence social change for us and for others is the key to self-empowerment.
We will dedicate this time to gain insights from each other by sharing personal and professional stories on representing our interests and achievements in a self-determined way and discussing ways to create a positive impact within our organizations.

The gender pay gap persists, and it is particularly wide for Latina Women. The stunning fact is that they earn 57 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men, which means they must work 21 months to make the equivalent of a white man’s yearly earnings. As we recognize Latina Women’s Equal Pay Day on December 8th, join She Runs It & the Midwest Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, for an enlightening series of conversations that provide insight into the problem while focusing on actions and strategies that can help deliver greater equity in salary and more.
Speakers:
Claudia Romo Edelman, Founder, We Are All Human
Elba Intriago, VP, Group Account Director, Walton Isaacson
Jessica Torres Soto, SVP, Head of People, Civic Entertainment Group
