August is National Wellness Month, and if there were ever a good time to pause and check in with ourselves, this is it.
The truth is, many women are carrying more than ever before. McKinsey and LeanIn’s Women in the Workplace 2025 found burnout among senior women at its highest level in five years, with 60% reporting frequent burnout. Deloitte Women @ Work 2025 found rising stress, increasing mental load, and greater difficulty disconnecting from work. Gallup reports that women experience more daily stress than men, driven by the competing demands of work, caregiving, and the invisible labor that so often falls on our shoulders.
Those statistics apply to our colleagues, friends, families, and ourselves. We need a minute.
At She Runs It, we’ve always believed that advancing women isn’t just about helping more women reach leadership roles. It’s about creating workplaces where they can truly thrive once they get there.
As we move through August, I encourage you to think about wellness a little differently. You don’t have to overhaul your lifestyle. Sometimes it’s as simple as drinking another glass of water. Take a walk. Step away from your screen. Go to bed early one night. Or stop to celebrate one small moment that sparked joy during your day.
Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. And it isn’t a luxury. It’s one of the best investments you can make in your leadership, your well-being, and the people who count on you.
So this month, take a minute. Take a breath. Give yourself permission to slow down. Because when you take care of yourself, you’re not stepping away from your responsibilities. You’re stepping toward the source that makes it possible for you to be your best self.
